"in the united states more than 3 women each day die from domestic violence. one estimate suggests there are over 2 million incidents of battering each year -- which works out to a woman being hit somewhere in the country every 15 seconds. the national coalition against domestic violence reports 691,710 cases for 2001 -- which reduces the rate to about 1 attack every 45 seconds. the same source indicates 25% of women will experience battering in their lifetime."
